Dear Martha,
I know you have been in prison for the last few months so you are forgiven for not being up on the latest trends and all.... and rumour has it that it was knitted by your fellow inmates... but listen to me very closely, step away from the poncho. Take if off, hand wash it in homemade lavender wool wash, fold it and wrap it in tissue then stick it in your hand carved cedar hope chest and just forget about it. Truly. You'll thank me later.
Yours,
-gg

But look Helen, a Man-cho!

Is it too terrible of me to say that I have been tempted by a capelet (which strictly speaking, isn't a poncho?)

Mancho? Oh no!

No way man! I don't group the capelet with the poncho either. A poncho is very daggy 70's (not that I mind most daggy 70's stuff) where as a capelet is a bit more 40's glam, ya know?

I'm so relieved! Now I just need to find a really pretty pattern for one and add that to my list of "things I must knit"

Hahah! The worst thing about that one is that it looks like a camping blanket got it on with a DICKEY(yall) and had a really ugly baby. And by the look on the models face, he knows he looks like an idiot.
I feel terrible, I mean, imagine if some midguided fashionista knitted that for her male companion and he refused to wear it! So much yarn! So much work and SO UGLY.

I am so with you on the capelet. Capelet= more mobility, the poncho is too much like a straight jacket or an upper body skirt! If you need such warmth, wear a nice cardie. The capelet is just like a more flattering kind of shawl/wrap, which is kind of superfluous, but the 40's glam thing wins out.
